The directed species-reactions (DSR) graph is a labeled digraph related to the structure of a reaction network and provides a powerful necessary condition for the existence of multiple positive steady states in reaction networks. Roughly speaking, if the cycles of the DSR graph satisfy a certain easily-checked property, then multistationarity cannot arise. This talk focuses on a partial converse of the DSR theorem, stating that if the DSR graph of a network contains a cycle with some particular features, then the network admits multiple steady states under mass action.
